B-rad and i watched the majority of this lunar eclipse last week... i even video taped it - sadly it didn't turn out the way i had anticipated. This youtube clip is far cooler.

oh yeah, and B-rad and i bought a video camera. i haven't yet decided if i want someone in the delivery room recording the birth - that crowning scene from Knocked Up still gives me the heebie jeebies... but we thought we should get a camera anyway b'cuz our baby will undoubtedly be a frikkin' genius and we'll need to record many moments for prosterity.

February 29th is a huge fucking ripoff

I'm here, in the office today, working...for free.

that's right people!! February 29th is a conspiracy to get one more working day for free from everyone who works on salary. If you work by the hour or per diem, sorry - you really should be working today. Those of us on salary will make the same amount this year as we did last year - but we're working one extra day!!

I'd venture a guess to say i'm not getting an extra day of interest on my savings account too.

bah.

the upside? February and all its shit-ness will be over in 15 hours or so.

i don't feel like updating. i don't feel like writing. i don't feel like being here, i don't feel like talking to people. i just may take a blogging break. nothing personal, but anything i blog will be garbage anyway.

hopefully, soon, this oppressive weight i'm feeling will lift and i'll be back to my old self.

ode to a lost weekend

i had every intention of checkin' my email then going on about my day... but now i'm stuck here, and this is why:

Cinda is our most skittish and squirmy cat, and she hardly ever cuddles. but this morning, as i pulled up my email, this little purry monster curled up beside me and hasn't left yet. which in itself is astonishing. what's even more amazing is that she has decided in her infinite wisdom to allow me, her human, to actually pet her!

B-rad and i spent the bulk of our weekend here, on the couch, vegging. While he still has the occasional coughing fit - he is, for the most part, much much better. it's been a very tiring week.

The dance was a let down - mostly due to poor advertising, and it by the end of the night, we decided to give up on about a half hour of music and just shut 'er down. there were 4 couples left dancing, so it was time to give it up. i was pretty discouraged. We practiced over 3 hours of songs, and spent the last 6 weeks or so giving up our Tuesday and Thursday nights to do so.

oh well, i doubt we'll be doing this again next year. Last year they gave us a small cheque for our troubles, this year, nada. and it's a lot of time and energy to just be 'volunteering'.

next year at this time i'll have a four month old baby and won't be able to do it - but i don't know if we would do it again regardless.

So Sunday morning - reeling off the disappointment of Saturday's turnout - B-rad and i watched almost all the episodes of Dexter we have. i think we have three epidsodes left in season 2. we watched it for over 10 hours straight yesterday. oh, were the Oscars this weekend? hm.

B-rad's Man-Cold

via artful kisser

I should clarify that B-rad really isn't that bad, but it's still kinda funny, especially since the woman in this video is named "Laura".

and yes, the cold and the bronchitis still rage on in our home.

Last night we had another rehearsal for the dance on saturday - and it's a little sketchy whether or not we're going to make it! i mean, b-rad is hanging in there by a thread, and last night our guitar player Glenn announced that his voice was completely gone. Excellent. should be a fun time.

And all that standing for 3 hours reaked havoc on my hips and legs so that all night i was uncomfy from my hips hurting. and not only that, but i woke up several times due to stomach cramps. Nothing scary, just painful. And to top that off i had several terrible nightmares.

Honestly, between the nightmares, the cramps, the sore hips and legs, and b-rad's constant coughing - i might be ready for those first weeks of sleepless nights. I have been up almost every 2 hours for the past 3 nights.

B-rad went to work this morning. First time all week - but he's not going to make it. he called me and asked me to come pick him up and take him home at lunch, poor guy.

And then rehearsal tonight again. February sucks my ass.

Waiting is the hardest part

i talked to B-rad, he says the fever is down to 99 degrees now. Thankfully. i was worried there for a little bit.

while cruisin' around the interweb, i came across this.... now the waiting game begins....

sicko.

it's been busy at Casa-de-Diva these past couple of days. We've been preparing like crazy for the this year's church dance which is this weekend. We've been practicing for the last 6 weeks or so, and we've added another hour of music to the program. And on top of that, B-rad has been sick. He had a really nasty cold last week, with a wicked cough. and he seemed to get better.

Muffy came over on Monday and we painted the baby's room from light green to....light green! lol. but it looks nice and fresh in there.

Monday night b-rad starting coughing again, and it got bad. He called in sick yesterday and took himself to the doctor who told him he has bronchitis. So, we practiced last night for the dance, and you could see B-rad starting to go downhill, he looked exhausted and just really sick. after everyone left, i checked his temperature. 100.2 degrees. he went to bed, but didn't sleep well. Which means, of course, that i didn't sleep well either. This morning, his entire body was burning - and his fever was 102.

i left him this morning on the couch with plenty of fluids and his book to read. it killed me to leave him, he looked so awful.

i'm going to call him at lunch and see how he's feeling.

a baby registry? it's here.

a few people have nudged and prodded for me to create a baby registry, so i did.

it's here if you wanna check it out.

have a good weekend.

Baby Pool

Okay, so i made one little comment in my last post about a baby pool and my dear friend Teeni jumped right on it and lo and behold, the baby pool game was created!! So, click on the banner up there and head over and throw down your guesses!

i'll have to think of some kind of prize, but maybe having gloating privileges is prize enough? lol

Ultrasound = Ultracool!

My Valentine's Day was awesome.

Because the ultrasound was scheduled for 9:40 - B-rad and i didn't go in to work in the morning, which allowed for a very laid back, lazy morning... complete with morning nookie (SWEET) and as i was showering, B-rad cooked me a full on breakfast! Delicious. and there were a few cards, and a few tears. Feeling a little emotional. lol.

The ultrasound was probably one of the coolest things i've ever seen in my entire life!! i know that on the picture, it looks like a grainy black and white bean, or alien-type thing, but it's so much cooler than that. For those of you who've seen this before you know what i mean.

When the doc puts the goo on your belly (which he warmed up in the microwave, what an angel of a man) and he locates the baby.... i mean, it blew me away! There on the screen was a squirmy tiny little human being that was turning, and rolling, and moving it's arms and legs! It was so active, the Doc had to take a bunch of stills before he was able to get a good one. I mean, i knew there was something there - my growing belly is a testament to that, but there on the screen was our baby. Alive, and very active - even if i can't feel it yet. B-rad reached over and held my hand and i dropped a few tears - but mostly i found it hard not to laugh at how utterly amazing it was!

The Doc said we have a healthy 12 week old baby and gave us a picture and left. B-rad wanted a copy too, and as i was putting my coat and things back on, the doc came back in to get something. B-rad asked him if it was possible to get a copy of the photo, and the doc looked at him like no one had ever asked for two before! He didn't know what to do... so he tried hitting the print button again, and out came our Little Rock Star. So we each had a copy of the kid to show off at work.

We don't know the sex. We're not going to find out - B-rad really wants to be surprised, i wouldn't mind knowing now, but i'll wait so he can have his surprise.

There have been a few people going on record on what they think the baby will be... so far it's 2 for girl and 2 for a boy. i was considering setting up some kind of pool, but i'm not sure how to go about that, so if anyone has any brilliant ideas, let me know!

I'm off for breaky with B-rad and Muffy. We're going to pick colours for the nursery today and we'll be painting on Holiday Monday. i'll try to remember to take some before and after pics.

Savia quickie...

no, not that kind...you perv!!

Savia's super boy Superstar called me a little after five and he said:

"Hello? is this Laura?"
"yes."
"....SHE'S ALIVE!"

she survived her jaw surgery people!! 'tis a time for rejoicing.

superstar said all the docs and nurses love her, she's so chipper and a great patient. She is communicating by writing, naturally, and before i got off the phone with her man, he said; "Hold on, she's writing something for me to say to you.......okay... she says: SMOOCHIES!"

yeah.

i love her.

14 things you didn't know before! + 7

Geeze, you can tell it must be february, cuz everywhere you go it's meme city. i was tagged TWICE for this one! by the fabulous wenchwire and the most excellent Nat

tag baby: 7 random or weird things about the yourself (as i was tagged twice, i'll give you 14 random things, cuz i'm totally sweet like that)

The rules are as follows:

# Link to the person who tagged you
# Post the rules on your blog.
# Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
# Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
# Leave a comment on their blogs so that they know they have been tagged.

okay.

1. - i've suffered from nightmares almost my whole life! My brain produces some really fucked up shit. i've even been known to have dreams so vivid, i wake up remembering every detail; and more than once i've dreamed the future...iamtheprophetess?? hardly.

2. - When i was five, i had to go to Vancouver to the nearest Children's Hospital to have surgery. When i woke up, my mom gave me a Cat puppet and a slinky bracelet. i was never so happy to see her.

3. - Both my thumbs are double jointed. This makes it very difficult to play the guitar, and also the clarinet.

4. - Also, my hips are double jointed too... but not in a way that enhances mine or B-rad's sex life, unfortunately, more in the way that if i stand in one position too long, my hip will pop out. rather embarassing.

5. - i don't eat red meat. Not because i don't want to... i looooooves me some steak... or a roast beef dinner.... but whenever i eat it, it sends my guts into terrible crampy distress. so i avoid it altogether.

6. - i also don't eat seafood. I'm allergic to shellfish, and i can't stand the taste of 'fish' at all, so i steer clear from the whole food 'genre'.

7. - i hate having dirty nails. and i constantly clean out the nail gunk with a paper clip. Having uneven or chipped nails also sorta bothers me, but not enough to really do anything about it.

8. - i love the smell of a freshly lit cigarette. but just the freshly lit variety.

9. - i constantly kill house plants. i'm sooo bad at that.

10. - i love it when b-rad plays with my hair. So much so, that i'm almost positive i was a cat in a former life.

11. - One of my pet peeves is fidgeting. B-rad is a fidgeter - he must play with something at all times, including - but not limited to: twirling my engagemnet/wedding rings while holding my hand, pulling on the seams of my jeans inside my thigh, playing "guitar" on my leg while driving, playing with my bra strap when his arm is around me... and much much more. but i love him. sigh.

12. - When i finally ended my horrible relationship with Dickface, i very dramatically (and very AWESOMELY) threw the ring he gave me in his face and walked away. it was wicked sweet. later that day i commented to my mom that i missed having his ring more than i missed him - now my thumb was all empty. So, my mother bought me a cheap silver ring to replace the one i threw at D.F. i have worn it every single day since then - and it is the most important ring i own aside from my wedding/engagement rings. it makes me think of my mom. i love her, she's fantastic.

13. - due to this whole preggers thing, my hands have swelled up a tad. I woke up one morning in a panic thinking i'd never be able to get my wedding/engagement rings off - and it took over a half hour of trying before i was able to slide them off my throbbing ring finger. I now wear those rings on a chain around my neck, and the ring from my mom (see above) sits on my ring finger as a place holder.

14. - i have, on occassion, sm0ked p0t - but never really liked it. Mostly it just made me sleepy and paranoid - i always felt like i was chewing off the insides of my mouth, ew. i could never relax about the whole mouth thing enough to enjoy being high.

to tag, to tag... who will i tag!?!?

1. Funny Girl
2. Em
3. Melsie (where are you Melsie?)
4. Witchypoo
5. Real Live Lesbian
6. Paige Stanton (YES...again!)
7. B.E.Earl

now, hopefully i have appeased the Meme-Gods!!

UPDATE!
apparently i have not appeased the Meme-Gods, because as i was off tagging people i discovered i was tagged for this meme by Paige Stanton, and also for another meme by Funny Girl. So, here are seven MORE things for Paige:

1. - growing up poor, we 'rented' our movies from the local library, which included musicals of every sort. While my friends were watching the Care Bears movies, i was learning the words to The Sound of Music and Kiss Me Kate.

2. - My brother and i had "paper routes" when we were in the 6th and 5th grades, respectively. My mother would drive us from the farm into town so that we could deliver the fliers after supper. The Flier route was much easier than a Paper route because there was no money to be collected

3. - One night delivering fliers, in the winter (warm Balmy winters of Southern British Columbia) i had turned the street i was delivering on into a set from The Sound of Music, and i danced down the street singing my little 11 year old heart out. Just as i was coming to the big finish of "16 going on 17" i hear clapping from the house ahead of me. i was mortified.

4. - When i was 12 i was asked to go with a family friend to Cardston, AB to babysit while they went to the Temple. I was to be paid $100.00, and i felt like i had just inherited millions! A hundred dollars would NEVER run out!!

5. - i was severly jaded when the Hundred dollars ran out after purchasing a shirt, a pair of pants, and some candy.

6. - When i was six i told my mother i didn't want to be a virgin when i grew up. i didn't know what a virgin was, i just knew i didn't want to be one.

7. - i was 12 when i finally got the chicken pox. my two younger brothers barely broke out and were done in a matter of days. my older brother and i got them sooo badly, they were in our ears, mouths, throats, we were terribly sick and covered completely from head to toe. we slept in a snowsuits to stop ourselves from itching, it was July.

Chess Traps, Pitfalls and Swindles, oh my!

i took a weekend break from my blog and my computer -GASP!! and when i returned, i found i had been tagged by the lovely Saviabella to play this game:

The game is to

* Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
* Open the book to page 123.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the next three sentences.
* Tag five people.

So, the book i picked up was: "The Bridge Across Forever" by Richard Bach

i just started reading it this weekend - it's the quasi-sequel to his best seller Illusions
So far it's pretty good - but i'm not quite at page 123 yet, so hopefully these sentences will make sense to me soon...
Here's the excerpt:
"Inspiring," she corrected, "for distraction, i have other tapes."
We played for Half an hour, a tough game from the first move. She had just reread her Modern Ideas in the Chess Opening, which would have powdered me had i not finished Chess Traps, Pitfalls and Swindles two days earlier.
Okay, so i tag thee:
Go forth my minions - and pass on the meme like it was V.D!! :D

133 - x365 Lorenda R

you're the reason why i made the move from diaryland to blogger, i wanted to leave a comment on your blog, but had to have an account to do so. i don't know you very well, but mostly because we only ever see each other when you come home from afar to visit. But each time i see you, you give me a big hug. you are good at hugs.

132 - x365 Lauren P

When we first met, the other girls at the store told me you were annoying and obsessive compulsive and they hated working with you. I didn't mind, i thought you had your moments, but generally you were fun to be around. When you left for a better paying job, you called me and brought me with you.
