Christmas Meme

Good Friday Everyone.
'tis the season for being busy! so i apologize for the **quality** blogging that's been happening here as of late. Hopefully i'll be back in the swing soonish.... (Fiona II will be on her way soon!!)

Here's a Christmas Meme

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Before my dad moved us all to the Skatch to go to University, he was a meat cutter. I learned to wrap meat at a young age...i've carried this skill over into the world of Gift wrapping... i prefer gift wrapping, there's less meat juice*

2. Real tree or artificial? Artificial - for a few reasons... Because then i can put it up early and it won't turn brown and die, i don't have to go out into the freezing cold to look at trees all tied up and imagine what they look like when they're thawed, i'm not killing a tree, easy clean up.

3. When do you put up the tree? My rule is: NO DECORATIONS/MUSIC until at least November 12th. We have to remember the veterans. And in Canada, Thanksgiving is in October - Not November like our American friends to the south. So, after Remeberance Day, the next holiday on the list is Festivus.

4. When do you take the tree down? uhm, usually i'll leave it up for B-rad's birthday in January.

5. Do you like eggnog? UGH! no! Eggs and Milk and Booze should never in the same glass be. Gross. It feels like drinking snot.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? When i was 12 my dad made me a desk for Christmas, because i loved writing. He made it from scratch over at a friends shop. It's made of 2 x 4s... i love it. you can see it here.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? yeah, my mom gave it to me one year. it's cute, but i don't put it out.

8. Hardest person to buy for? My In-laws.

9. Easiest person to buy for? B-rad. I know what he likes, and he's pretty easily please when it comes to Festivus gifts.

10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" on VHS starring Jim Carrey from a co-worker when i worked at the restaurant.

11. Mail or email Christmas cards? i prefer in the mail, there's nothing better than opening your mail box to see something that's NOT a bill. yeah. And this is the first year that i've actually been on the ball enough to send out cards.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? This is a good question!! hm.... Well, it's just not Festivus unless i've seen Muppet Family Christmas.

if anyone knows where you can find this on DVD... please let me know!!
and my other favourite is the Muppet Christmas Carol. i'm sensing a theme here.

"COME IN!! AND KNOW ME BETTER, MAN!!!" i love this song. one of my faves.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? November-ish.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? i don't think so, but anything's possible.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Turkey. I love turkey. mmmm.

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Coloured! and my tree needs to be a mish mash of decorations! None of this themed nonsense.

17. Favorite Christmas song? "It feels like Christmas" from the Muppet Christmas Carol. (See above) It's so great! i love the lines at the end: "It's true - wherever you find love, it feels like Christmas".

18. Travel or stay at home for Christmas? It used to be travelling every year, but thankfully now the farthest we have to travel is to our parents' places. 20 minutes, instead of seven hours.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeers? yep! but the tricky thing is to name them alphabetically! Try it.

20. Angel on the treetop or a star? B-rad and i actually have a Snowflake on top of our tree. What we'd really like is a Star Tetrahedron. We actually don't have ANY angles on our tree at all.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Growing up we always wanted to be able to open a gift or two on Christmas Eve. I was always jealous of my friends who got to do this. It was our general practice to have 'sleep overs' - where me and my 3 brothers would crowd into one bedroom and stay up late talking about what we hoped we were getting, and mainly giggling until we fell asleep. Then we'd wake up around 5 in the morning (Sometimes earlier) and one of us (usally the youngest) would be recruited to go and knock on my parent's door to see if we could go downstairs yet. When dad would bellow out: "NO! Go Back to Bed!!" whoever that child was would run back to the sleepover room. Then about 10 minutes later we'd send the next kid. Eventually we'd wear them down. My parents realized that the sooner we opened presents the sooner they could go back to bed.

As we got older, we got smarter... i remember the last year that all four of us kids lived at home, Brent was 20, i was 18, Patrick was 16 and Willy Billy was 13. Instead of knocking on the door, we went about it the passive agressive way of sitting on the floor in the hallway...just feet away from mom and dad's room... and playing cards...rather loudly. "GO FISH!!"

My brother and his wife and kids have moved back to the Skatch this summer and will be in their own house this year - not staying at mom and dad's, so it will be the FIRST CHRISTMAS EVER where we don't open presents until at least after lunch. i'm looking forward to sleeping in a bit.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Obviously the Commercialism. i have yet to meet one single person who is like: "Y'know what this holiday needs?? MORE commercialism." I also am quite sick of the Holiday Religious debate. You're not going to change my mind, and i won't change yours. So lets just enjoy the time off work celebrating in our own way and enjoy each other's company.

23. What I love most about Christmas? Family, friends, music, food, in that order.

*meat juice - i found this term over at Witchypoo's site. Go check her out!
