1. - When B-rad and i decided we should probably start thinking of moving home some day, we both knew that we wanted a house with a big back yard, and trees, in a nice neighbourhood close to schools (for the chillins that will eventually come). The big issue with use was the basement. B-rad wanted a basement for recording/music room. i wanted a basement to chuck my kids into to play. we argued/discussed this for some time. the solution? we needed a house with 2 basements.
2. - i looked online at many many houses...one October day while looking online at the MLS listings in Cowtown, i came across a house that looked great. It wasn't too old so it wouldn't need a lot of work, and it appeared to have exactly what we needed....2 basements?!? Could that be? am i seeing that right? The house was For Sale By Owner and they were having an open house that saturday.
3. - After showing the house to B-rad, we called his parents and asked if they wouldn't mind going to the open house to check it out. They did, on Sunday... the day after the Open House. They said it looked like a really great find. We happened to be in town the next weekend for Thanksgiving (Thanksgiving is in October up here in Canada for my Yankee friends) so we thought - well, it can't hurt to check it out.
4. - While home for the Holiday, we made an appointment with the bank on the Saturday and got pre-approved for a mortgage. The banker said "Now all you need to do is find a house you'd like to make an offer on!" we went to look at the house on Sunday - it was perfect.
5. - It seemed that it was everything we ever wanted or needed in a house. a Four Level Split. Big master bedroom with an ensuite, 2 smaller bedrooms across the hall (for the eventual chillins) and a full bath on the uppermost level, a fair sized kitchen with walkout deck and a living room on the main level, a HUGE Rumpus room with a full bath with a walkout to the backyard the next level down, and the part that sold the house: The second basement that is partially unfinished.
6. - We drove home to Cowtown the next day and made an offer that night.
7. - I could hardly believe we were finally getting out of the City and i would finally be able to quit my job from hell. There was a snag. The owners of the house had just signed on with a Realtor the day before (or after, i can't remember) we made them an offer. The Reatlor was very aggressive saying "they haven't put anything in writing" and were very actively trying to sell the house out from under us. The owners of the house really liked us. They were a young couple too and they said they really wanted us to have the house. SO everything was rushed, the offers, the lawyers, the counteroffers... the securing of funds. i was a nervous wreck.
8. - Even when we signed the papers, gave our notice at our place in Cowtown and started packing up our stuff - i didn't believe it. Mine and B-rad's brothers drove from Toontown to Cowtown in the middle of freezing November to help us move back. There was a great big convoy of trucks carrying all our wordly possessions away while we did the final walk through and drove home with a loaded car and 2 very annoyed cats.
9. - When we arrived in the middle of the night, we found that all the trucks and trailors had been unloaded and our bed was set up and made in our new bedroom of our new house. The family fire-bucket brigade showed up while we were driving back! My mom and Dad, B-rad's Mom and Dad and various other friends and in-laws showed up to make sure that when we finally got home, we could go straight to sleep. Our family is fucking awesome.
10. - For those of you out there who have moved around and rented, you know that feeling when you get into your new place and everything is unsettled and it feels weird cuz you just moved in and there's stuff everywhere? Well, we had stuff everywhere, but we knew it was home. It felt like home.
11. - The spring brought us our now most favourite part....the backyard. When we moved into the house it was in the middle of winter and there was snow everywhere so we never really got a good idea of what the yard looked like, except for various glimpses out the window. When the snow finally melted and the trees started to bud - we really clued into what a fabulous place we have.
12. - One thing i wanted, when i was looking for houses online, was trees in the backyard where i could go and sit by and most importantly, i had this visual in my head of finding a corner spot in my yard - behind a big pine tree - where i could set up a little meditation spot. i had given up on that when i would look into the backyard in the winter and see no pine trees. In the spring, i was surprised when this big old tree in the southwest corner of the yard started to bud... i thought it was dead. It turns out, it's a Tamarack. the only pine whose needles change colour in the fall and drop. So, i have my little corner spot behind a pine.... AND... when B-rad and i were living in Cowtown i always said: "When we buy a house, i'm planting lilacs right outside our bedroom window so i can sleep with it open and smell them" guess what's planted right outside our bedroom window.
13. - shortly after we moved in, during one of our "i can't believe we bought this house" conversations, B-rad turned to me looked me in the eye and said: "You manifested this house." the more i think about it, the more i know he's right. i told the universe exactly what i wanted without knowing it. Even down to the paint inside the house! The universe was taking in all those details and when the time was right everything fell into place. My perfect dream house fell right into my lap in the space of 3 weeks - from finding the house online to signing the last papers. The more time we spend in it, the more thankful i am and grateful for it.
